Beam Test Results and Prototype
Schedule
Andrey discussed the results presented at Lyon. The major statement
from the GIF (Gamma Irradiation Facility) at CERN is that we don't
have a working design. The major problems were the following:
-
The Cathode electronics does not fit the chamber. The attempt to solve
this will require some of the trigger boards to go outside the chamber.
-
The cooling plates attachment to the chamber and the heating transfer from
the Faraday cage to the cooling plates was not solved.
-
The Anode electronics oscillates and present a different threshold
(typically higher than what is needed) for different channels.
-
A large cross-talk develops between strips and wires, destroying the baseline
and, therefore, the muon signal when the chamber is illuminated with a
flux of gammas.
A the previous issue the last one (cross-talk) could imply a change in
the chamber design. One possibility of fixing it would be by increasing
the value of the blocking capacitance on the wires. Back-of-the-envelop
estimates show that this should not be a problem, however a plan was proposed
to solder Caps of different values on the 3 planes of P2' , going,
for instance, from 1 nF to 300 pF and check if the x-talk get much worse.
Andrey also requested the production of 2 small chambers for an aging
test in February-March at GIF. Discussion on the design of the chambers
is going on.
Cosmic Stand & Tooling
Yury discussed the pricing for the Cosmic Test Stand, which amount
to ~10k$ for one cart, and something more for the FAST sites (3 carts).
UF will procure the material through FNAL. The delivery time is 3-4 weeks.
The procurement for the Chamber Cart (the cart for the final RTV sealing
of a chamber) is progressing.
-
Action Item: Ron will procure the
Cosmic Stand parts. Andrey will transfer the UF money to FNAL for the procurement.
